Announcement: Colombia | Birding the Central Andes Bert Alm

Join Bert and Val Alm for a special trip to Colombia in 2022. This is not being provided by Hundred Acre Hollows, Inc., we are just making you aware of this opportunity. Bert, SCAS Field Trip Director and HAH Treasurer, is the leader for this trip provided by Holbrook Travel. This trip is limited to 10 participants.

With over 1,900 avian species—more than any other country in the world—Colombia is a birder’s paradise waiting to be discovered. This 9-day program with Bert Alm from Space Coast Audubon focuses on the highlights of the Central Andes region, famed for its high level of species diversity, including the Otún Quimbaya Flora and Fauna Sanctuary, Rio Blanco Reserve, and Los Nevados National Park. Explore Andean cloud forest, farmland, and páramo habitats in search of an array of tropical avifauna, including flycatchers, hummingbirds, tanagers, toucans, and more. Throughout your journey, meet members of local communities and learn about conservation efforts to use birding as a sustainable development resource.

Highlights
* Seek out a variety of Colombia’s rare and endemic species, such as the Cauca Guan, Chestnut Wood-Quail, Crested Ant-Tanager, and Buffy Helmetcrest.
* Explore the cloud forest at a relatively new birding location, La Finca El Cortaderal, where a population of critically endangered Fuertes’s Parrot was discovered.
* Watch the antpitta feeders in Rio Blanco Natural Reserve, a designated Important Bird Area, and look for large mixed flocks in this area.
* Meet with members of the Yarumo Blanco Foundation and learn about their involvement with Audubon’s guide training and the development of the Central Andes Birding Trail.

Land Cost is $2,875 per person and does not include round-trip airfare to and from the destination. The single room supplement is $455. Final Payments are due by Nov 13, 2021.
