Hundred Acre Hollows is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors who bring a diverse range of professional expertise and a shared passion for conservation, education, and community engagement. Together, they ensure that our mission to protect wildlife, restore habitat, and engage the public is carried out thoughtfully and sustainably.


Our Board represents a diversity of backgrounds, including environmental engineering, education, natural sciences, business, military service, psychology, and community leadership. Each member contributes unique insights and skills, helping us grow and thrive as stewards of this vital green space.

Betsy Hintz

President

Betsy Hintz is a retired naturalist and environmental chemist based in Melbourne, Florida, with a lifelong dedication to environmental science, education, and community service. She holds a B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology with a focus on Environmental Education and a minor in Chemistry from Iowa State University. Over her 20-year tenure with the Keokuk County Conservation Board, she played a key role in developing and leading environmental education programs, teacher training, and curriculum development for all grade levels, for this, she was awarded the 1994 Conservationist of the Year award from the Izaak Walton League of America. Her career also includes work as a chemist with First Environmental Laboratories, Inc running ICP-OES analyses and with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, where she conducted wastewater analyses and environmental monitoring.
In addition to her professional achievements, Hintz has been an active volunteer, serving as a Boy Scout Leader, Sunday School teacher, and Administrative Assistant for the Iowa State Volunteers. She enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and kayaking, and also loves traveling, reading, sewing, and painting.  Working with HAH has allowed her to continue environmental stewardship into her retirement.

Carine L. Baron

Vice President

Passionate about nature and education, Carine L. Baron has dedicated her career and volunteer work to making a positive impact in her community. She holds a “Maîtrise-ès-Sciences” in Biochemistry from Paris-Cité University, a “Diplôme Universitaire” in Business Innovation from Aix-Marseille II University in France, and a certification in higher education teaching from the University of Montreal, Canada.
Carine first worked in academic research before transitioning into industry as a Training Officer and Health & Safety Consultant specializing in the use, storage, and transport of chemical products in Canada.
After moving to the United States with her husband and family, she devoted herself to raising their children, while staying connected to her professional values through meaningful volunteering.
Since its founding, she has been an active volunteer for Hundred Acre Hollows, bringing her scientific background to restoration efforts and community engagement.
In her free time, she enjoys kayaking, photography, and exploring the wilderness.

Bert Alm

Treasurer

Bert Alm has been on the Board of Directors of Hundred Acre Hollows since 2016 and the Treasurer since 2017. He is a very active birdwatcher and is also the Treasurer for Space Coast Audubon Society. Bert is an Advanced Florida Master Naturalist and was one of the founding board members for the Space Coast Regional Chapter of the Florida Master Naturalists. Bert and his wife Val volunteer at the Brevard Zoo in the Sea Turtle Healing Center helping with the care for sick and injured sea turtles. Bert and Val are active travelers and enjoy exploring the natural world wherever they go.

Anita Unrath

Secretary


Anita Unrath is a retired foreign language teacher turned wildlife warrior. She has worked at saving HAH since March 2015. As a founding member of the HAH Board, she served as Secretary.  She has enjoyed learning about the bees, butterflies, birds, reptiles, mammals; and plants that live in HAH.  Since 2020, she planted many native plants in her yard, adjacent to HAH, extending the wildlife habitat. She enjoys bird watching, gardening, and helping planet earth. 
Anita grew up in NJ, Belgium, and Michigan and was an exchange student in France. She has a BA in French and Spanish from Valparaiso University, IN, and an MA in English from Eastern Washington University. Her husband, Tom, was a USAF chaplain. She taught in 5 states, Spain, and Okinawa. She retired after teaching 11 years at West Shore Jr/Sr High in Melbourne. Anita and Tom have two children. Their son, John, lives in NYC and their daughter, Nicole, always 21, is in Heaven.

Chantal Baudel

Director-at-Large

Chantal moved to Florida’s Space Coast eight years ago from France. She is passionate about community involvement and truly enjoys dedicating her time to making a positive impact on her community. She holds two Master’s degrees in Psychology and Business Management, both from the University of Toulouse. She began her career in Human Resources before moving into the field of professional training. Today, she supports people who are navigating career transitions, with a particular focus on those going through expatriation.
Being part of the HAH team is an incredible opportunity for her to give back to nature, protect the wildlife, and connect with others who share the same commitment. She believes every small action counts, and that together, people can make a real difference.

Tom Unrath

Director-at-Large

Pastor Tom Unrath was born in West Palm Beach, FL, and grew up all over the world in a USAF family. Tom is an Eagle Scout who has a deep love and concern for the creation God has given us. He graduated from Valparaiso University, IN, with a music and theology major and graduated from Christ Seminary-Seminex in St. Louis. He was pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in East Rutherford, NJ, for 5 years. As an Air Force Chaplain for 22 years, he served around the U.S. and overseas in Spain and Okinawa, Japan. After retiring from Patrick AFB in 2007 as a LtCol, he was pastor at several congregations in Brevard County including 10 years at Messiah Lutheran Church in Cocoa. He and Anita have two children. John works in New York City as a restaurant group manager. Nicole, who was a 1st grade teacher at MacDill AFB, died in a car accident in 2003, and lives in Heaven. As a person who lives with MS, Tom is active as an advocate for those with disabilities. He worked with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and has met with legislators in FL and DC. Ensuring accessibility for all is important to him. Since 2015, Tom has been working to protect the wildlife and habitat in Hundred Acre Hollows. He was HAH president until 2024.

Tanja Tea

Director-at-Large

Tanja Tea is a Melbourne, Florida-based entrepreneur and community advocate known for her work in both the beauty industry and environmental conservation.
Through her dual roles, Tanja combines her passion for personal wellness with a commitment to environmental stewardship, making a positive impact in both her industry and her community.

Brian Gill

Director-at-Large

Brian Gill is a network engineer at Patrick Space Force Base and joined the Hundred Acre Hollows (HAH) board in 2022 when his son Evan became a HAH Youth Ranger. He and his wife Arijana moved to the Space Coast in 2021 after Brian retired from the U.S. Department of State. His foreign service career included assignments across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
Previously, Brian served as a U.S. Army combat medic and later as a Licensed Practical Nurse before earning a B.S. in Information Technology after separating from military service. During his time at U.S. embassies abroad, he was active in environmental initiatives. As Chair of the Green Team in Harare, Zimbabwe, he led a major cleanup of Harare Gardens Park and successfully advocated for eco-friendly food service practices at the embassy. In Singapore, he helped organize a multi-nation beach cleanup and an invasive plant removal project.
Living in a fast-developing area of Brevard County, Brian values natural spaces and is committed to their preservation. In his free time, he enjoys family activities, music, cycling, surf fishing, and of course, quiet walks in nature.
